Stellant comes to the aid of NYC

Throughout March the global epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic moved from Europe to the New York metropolitan area. Many hospitals rushed to increase imaging capacity to support this increase in patients. Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn was investing in a trailer-based CT suite to place in their parking lot. Our U.S. colleagues received a request from a scanner manufacturer to loan a Stellant to support this effort. The team quickly responded to fulfill the request in short-order.

The injector installation took place led by Ken Le, the local Field Service Representative. Ken said “When I got the call about our partnership with this Humanitarian Aid Program, it was already set in urgent motion as NYC ramped up the temporary field hospitals around NYC to deal with COVID-19. At that time, many details were still being worked out between the hospital, the scanner company and us. The goal was to have everything ready by Monday, April 6, 2020.”

When Ken arrived at the site, work was proceeding at a frenetic pace. The site had no patients yet, but there was still an un-easy feeling in the building. “Everyone had their PPE on and of course, anyone in the building could have unknowingly been carrying COVID-19. It seemed like it was just another day at the office for them. There were no bad vibes during these uncertain times. Kudos to these workers!” he said.

“During the installation I concentrated on my work knowing that this health facility will be on the front line. Just like any other service calls, I made sure everything was working to prevent future downtime. That’s just one way to eliminate some of the frustrations for front-line workers. They are truly heroes. We must support them however we can. At the end of the day, I was impressed with the collaboration and efficiency that everyone had put forward during this process.” Ken stated.

The Service and Clinical teams will be providing training on the injector that will enable approximately 15-20 more patient imaging procedures a day.

“While the installation happened under less than ideal circumstances, the quick mobilization and flexibility of all involved will help to ensure that everyone receives clear answers about their health.”
