Exam volumes expected to rebound according to our quick poll
On April 15 we issued a quick poll to Radiology Insider readers to share their expectations for exam volumes over the coming months. This was done to support continuity of supply for Canadian imaging suites. The respondents were asked to use the beginning of the year as reference point, then indicate change in volumes now, in 1 month, in 3 months, and in 6 months.
The Dip: In both CT and MR, respondents indicated a large drop off in exam volumes “Now” and “1 month from now”. We see that MR exam volumes have dropped off by 64% compared to CT exams which are down 19%. Many of the MR respondents indicated that P4 exams had been cancelled.
The Bounce: Both CT and MR volumes rise above beginning of the year levels “3 months from now” and “6 months from now”. This points to a bounce back in volumes. Many of the respondents pointed to current or future efforts to rebook exams that have recently been cancelled. There were also mentions of more extensive disinfection in CT suites going forward.
The Participation: The respondents equally represented CT and MR suites equally. Ontario, BC, Quebec, and Nova Scotia were all represented. On average the quick poll took 2 minutes.
